2013 Team Qualifier #2

The second University of Kentucky Bass Fishing Team qualifier took place on Barren River Lake located in Lucas, KY. The weather was excellent and made for some good fishing.

Andrew-Barren-Andrew Day was able to notch his second victory with a nice mixed bag of spotted bass and largemouth for a total of 9lbs 8.2 ozs. Andrew was able to catch his spotted bass on a weightless fluke on a long extending point. Andrew stated “I caught my better largemouth on a shallow bluff wall with a Bandit series 200 crankbait in a chartreuse black backed color. I caught my 4 pounder in about 8 inches of water at the end of the bluff wall”. Andrew has won back to back qualifying tournaments and still holds a slim lead in the Angler of the Year standings.

Hunter Fulcher was able to secure second place with a solid bag for 6lbs 9 ozs. Hunter caught the majority of his keepers throwing the Alabama Rig rigged with Strike King shadalicious swimbaits. Hunter mentioned “Targeting rock walls were key, I always love catching fish on the A-Rig its such an awesome bite”.¬†With solid 4th place finish in the previous qualifier Hunter is sitting very comfortably in the Angler of the Year standings.

Marty Ballard rounded out the top 3 with a total weight of 5lbs 11.8 ozs. Marty was also targeting rock walls but was able to catch the majority of fish throwing a jig. Marty stated “I was able to catch my fish on a rip-rap bank dragging my jig as slowly as possible”.

The UK Bass Team qualifiers are now half way over, with only two more qualifier left the race for the top spot in the Angler of the Year is getting tight. The next qualifying tournament will take place on November 3rd on Lake Cumberland.
